CompTia A+ -Core One
CompTIA A+ Core 1 (220-1101) serves as a foundational baseline for entry-level IT professionals, focusing primarily on physical hardware, networking infrastructure, and mobile endpoint devices. The exam validates a candidate's ability to identify, use, and connect essential computer components, configure basic peripheral devices, and support varied mobile environments including smartphones and tablets. It also emphasizes the practical application of basic networking concepts, such as IP addressing, common TCP/UDP ports, wireless standards, and the setup of small office/home office (SOHO) networks.
Beyond physical assembly and connectivity, Core 1 evaluates real-world problem-solving, virtualization concepts, and cloud computing principles. Candidates must demonstrate competence in hardware and network troubleshooting methodology—diagnosing issues ranging from power delivery failures and storage drive degradation to display artifacts and intermittent connectivity. Combined with Core 2 (which targets operating systems, software troubleshooting, and security), passing Core 1 establishes the baseline technical competency required for roles such as help desk technician, field service specialist, and desktop support analyst.
